In Milwaukee the Urban Ecology Center and Milwaukee Film teamed up to present the Making It Home film festival. The weekend began with a public talk by best-selling author Bill McKibben, followed by a discussion about his latest book, Eaarth.

The Making It Home project brings people together from many walks of life. How would you describe the diversity in your community?

Milwaukee is an incredibly diverse city that benefits from its various cultures, ethnicities, religions and walks of life. As the densest area of Wisconsin, Milwaukee forms a melting pot that encourages different groups of people to work together. By holding the Making it Home events at the Urban Ecology Center we're reinforcing the importance of diversity in our community, because the Center is located at the intersection of very different neighborhoods and economic groups.

Friday, April 16:

7 PM: kicks off on Friday, April 16 with a special public talk by Bill McKibben, an American environmentalist and author of best-selling books including "Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future" and "The End of Nature."Bill McKibben is the founder of 350.org, an international climate campaign, and his newest book is called "Eaarth." The talk will be followed by community conversation and a public reception.

Pre-registration for the free public talk by Bill McKibben is required. Please register by calling the Urban Ecology Center receptionist at 414 / 964 8505.

Saturday, April 17:

10 AM: "Ghostbird" film followed by conversation and optional bird walk.

11:15 AM: A guided bird walk will leave from the Urban Ecology Center. All are welcome, no experience necessary!

3 PM: "Know Your Mushrooms" film followed by discussion and a foray outside in search of mushrooms.

4:15 PM Mushroom foray led by folks from the Wisconsin Mycological Society.

6 PM: Presentation about the Making of "Green Fire" and "Milking the Rhino" films followed by conversation.

Sunday, April 18:

1 PM: "What's On Your Plate?" Film followed by conversation.

2:15 PM: Family Cooking Class. This will be a fun introduction to some easy and delicious food to cook and eat together!

5 PM: "Men of the Lake" and "Upstream Battle" films followed by conversation.
